RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) is a sensor whose resistance changes as its temperature changes. The resistance increases as the temperature of the sensor increases. The resistance vs temperature relationship is well known and is repeatable over time. An RTD is a passive device. It does not produce an output on its own. External electronic devices are used to measure the resistance of the sensor by passing a small electrical current through the sensor to generate a voltage. Typically 1 mA or less measuring current, 5 mA maximum without the risk of self-heating.
PTC Thermistor Focusens offers a comprehensive selection of motor protection, including our advanced thermistor probe PTC thermistors. These PTC thermistors, featuring an insulated wire cable, significantly increase resistance from a few hundred ohms to several thousand ohms at their thermal switching point (Ts). This sharp resistance change allows the PTC thermistor to function as a solid-state thermal switch, ideal for triggering electronic circuits to deactivate overloaded electric motors, overheated bearings, or electrical appliances. Choose from our range of PTC thermistors with temperature switch points from 60°C to 180°C to ensure optimal protection for your equipment.
